Partnerships Marketing Intern
First, there was a recorded HireVue interview where they asked about my interest in specific business sectors and my availability. After that, I had a 30-minute virtual chat with the hiring managers for the team, and they were super nice.
- Could you tell me about your resume?
- Is there a particular brand you admire?
- What's your favorite film?
Administrative Assistant
I applied two days after the job was posted and got a call a week later, partly because a friend of mine reached out to HR for me. We set up a phone screen for the next week. Then, four days after that, I had an in-person interview with two of the hiring managers. The day after the in-person, they contacted my references. A few days later, they scheduled a third interview with a vice president and the department president, which was set for three weeks later, right before the holidays. I got the job offer the next business day. My HR recruiter was really good and kept me updated throughout the whole process. They didn't ask a ton of questions, just some general industry stuff and about my past experience in the field. They also do a really thorough background check.
- How many years have you worked in this field?
- Can you tell me about your specific experience in this line of work?
Publicist
Applied online in late July on Universal's career page. HR called me the first week of August for a 15-20 minute phone screener. The HR person was hard to read, not very responsive, so it was tough to gauge if they liked my answers. They ended by saying there was a lot of interest and they'd reach out if there were next steps. Mid-August, HR emailed to schedule two in-person interviews. I met with two upper management folks separately for about 30 minutes each the last week of August. Those went well; they were personable and felt more like casual chats. I followed up with HR via email in early/mid-September. After my second follow-up, HR called to say they were going with other candidates. I appreciated getting closure, even though it wasn't the desired result.

Director, Business Affairs
I got an email from a TA Director asking if I could do an initial phone interview the next day or the day after. I replied right away saying I was available either day. Then I got no response. The next day I followed up, asking if it was still possible to speak that afternoon. Still no response. So the next day I called her. When I said my name, she asked if we had an interview scheduled for right then. I said no, I was calling to follow up because I hadn't heard back. She then asked me to send an email. I suggested sending a new message in case mine wasn't going through. Her response to my new email made it clear she'd missed my replies twice. Finally, we had the 30 minute phone interview. About two-thirds of the way through, she realized I wasn't on the East Coast, even though my resume had my city, we'd discussed my time zone (not East Coast) when scheduling, and I'd already mentioned my city. It's frustrating to have that person be the only one deciding if I'm competent enough.
- Regarding your relocation, why are you moving from the East Coast?
