First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at United Ground Express.
Supervisor
This was one of the worst interviews ever. I spoke with a manager who had trouble speaking English, and another supervisor who made faces the whole time. The manager kept asking about my old company's policies and acted surprised when I answered, saying it wasn't possible. It's weird to ask about other airlines if you don't know how they work. They also didn't seem to know that Republic Airways or SkyWest fly for United Express. Besides being rude, they didn't know what to ask. I applied for supervisor, and Excel wasn't a requirement, but the manager kept asking about it, even though he didn't seem to know how to use it himself. It was a waste of time because my qualifications didn't match what they were looking for. On the bright side, HR was quick and professional. If you want to grow in aviation, look elsewhere. Glad I'm not working there.
- Can you tell me about a time...?
Ramp Agent
I applied online on the United Ground Express's Website. The interview happened in person at the airport where I would be working. One of the supervisors interviewed me and asked me about my background and why I wanted to work at United as a Ramp Agent. They said I'd hear back by the end of the week, but I got an offer the next day and had 48 hours to accept, which I did.
- Have you worked with customers before?
Passenger Service Agent
It started with a group presentation and then moved to an individual face-to-face interview. They kept it brief and to the point. They talked about their company and what to expect, and we looked at some papers. Then they interviewed us one-on-one and asked a few questions. They figure out if you qualify during the questions. If you get an offer letter, they fingerprint you right away and set up a drug screening.
- How would you deal with a challenging customer?
- Tell me about a time you had to use something new you learned.
- Are there any reasons why you couldn't work with the flexible schedule?
Customer Service Agent
I applied online and got a call from the Chicago recruitment office in a few days. They were helpful with my questions and set up an interview for me at the airport near my home, where I was applying. I met with two people who told me about the company's history and benefits, then asked three situational questions. I got a call back the next day with a job offer. Two days later, I went for a drug screening and physical, and I have fingerprints scheduled for next week. The whole process took about 3 weeks.
- Describe a situation where you had to manage a difficult customer.
