First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at United Cellular.
Sales Expert
It was a really unusual process. There wasn't an official job posting. I saw a sign, went in, and asked about an app. They requested my resume, and I had to go get it from my car. They then asked if I could interview right then because the hiring manager had interviews scheduled for later that day and wanted to make decisions quickly. I was dressed in casual street clothes, which was embarrassing, but I agreed. The second interview was set for the very next day.

- What aspects of your phone do you appreciate most?
Store Manager
I met up with the current District Manager, who I knew from before because I was a customer of his. We sat down and he asked me several questions and told me about the company and the direction it was heading. I still to this day see that direction and we are getting there at a good pace.
- Tell me about your experience managing people.
Sales Associate
The interview process was quite a mess. We had the first interview with the district and store manager, who were 20 minutes late. Then I got a call a few days later for a second interview, but they mistakenly scheduled other people at the same time. I passed that one and got new hire papers to scan and email. This was for a new store opening, and they said I'd help put up posters before it opened. I texted the store manager to check, and she said they were still looking over personality tests, even though the recruiter said I passed. It's frustrating because they should have reviewed that before interviewing me and making me think I had the job, especially since I turned down 3 other interviews because I thought this one was a sure thing. Very unprofessional, and I won't apply for Sprint again.
- Do you have any prior sales experience?
District Manager
Got a call to see if I was interested. Then, a couple of weeks later, another call to set up an interview. I went to their store in Huntersville. The interviewer, Sonia, met me in a back break room. She said she was interested in me starting as a regular salesman based on my resume. When I asked about the District Manager position I applied for, she told me they'd already hired someone from Atlanta. She thought I wasn't qualified because I'd been out of the cell phone industry for five years, even though I keep up with it personally. Seeing the amateur mistakes in the store made me realize I could fix things quickly. I was put off by how unprofessional and inconsiderate it was to waste my time and not even call to say the position was filled.
- How do you think you can do the job?
