First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at United Blood Services.
Registered Nurse
The hiring process had two main parts. First, I chatted with a nurse from UBS who gave me the lowdown on the job and the perks of working there. He mentioned I'd need to send in a written application to HR for background checks. Things got a little dicey when they had trouble reaching my references, so I had to scramble for more. Thankfully, they eventually got everyone, ran my police and credit checks, and then passed my application to the medical director. She called me personally for an interview. It was a really pleasant chat where she just described the role and asked if I was interested. After that, I met with her and the current group supervisor, which also went great. She offered me the job the very next day.
- Can you tell me about the patients you found most challenging to care for?
Lab Technician
The recruiter called me for a quick phone chat and said she'd call back to schedule another interview. She did, and set up an in-person interview a few weeks later. After the first one-on-one, I was asked back for a second interview and a peer interview about a week after the first one. I haven't heard anything back in over 2 weeks, so I guess I didn't get the job.
- Can you tell me about a past supervisor who might not have the best things to say about you, and why?
- Is this a long-term position you are looking for?
Donor Outreach Coordinator
I met with someone from the company at a job fair, gave them my resume, and they told me to take online tests to be considered. After passing those, I had an interview with the company where I did all the hiring paperwork. A few days later, I had a second interview with UBS, and I got the offer a few days after that. The training is fun and informative.
- What's your approach to dealing with an impolite donor?
Marketing Communications Manager
It's a series of written questions they ask as you write. The whole process feels pretty impersonal. Make sure you know the company and the job really well, and how you'd do the work. Even though the job description doesn't mention it, expect to travel a lot and cover a specific territory.
- Can you describe what you would do in this position?
- What actions would you take in this role?
