Engineer
I had an interview for an Engineering role. The interviewer was unprofessional and didn't seem to understand me. He immediately said I didn't have enough experience, which was shocking since my YOE exceeded the requirements and was relevant. He then spent a long time making small talk. He asked about every aspect of the job description and my 5+ years of work experience, plus my PhD details. I felt I answered well, but he seemed stuck and might have been talking randomly to extend the interview. I suspect nepotism, and that I was interviewed just to fulfill a requirement.
- Can you tell me about your knowledge and skills concerning all the responsibilities listed in the job description?
- Can you provide detailed information about your work experience over the past 5+ years?
- Could you elaborate on the work you conducted during your PhD?
HR Coordinator
So the interview for the HR Coordinator job started with a phone call from the recruiter, then an in-person panel interview with the team, and then a final one-on-one with the hiring manager. The recruiter call was okay, but they didn't really seem to know the job well. They said a few things about the role that the hiring manager later corrected, which was confusing. The panel interview with the team was weird, felt more like they were trying to trip me up than have a conversation. I think I had more experience than one of the senior HR generalists there, which made it awkward. They also misunderstood my resume, thinking my listed skills were actual job titles I'd held. The hiring manager's interview was much better though. They explained what the job really involves and it felt more professional and positive. It ended well, but the lack of preparation and clear information earlier on wasn't great. Super weird, they made me fill out a physical application form.
- Can you describe your skills and knowledge?
- Could you introduce yourself?
- Tell me about a time you used the STAR method.
Manufacturing Engineer
The interview process was pretty straightforward and the hiring manager really drilled down into the technical side of things. It went for about 1.5 hours. They were focused on technical skills and really wanted to understand my technical knowledge. It probably involved some in-depth technical questions and maybe some problem-solving stuff. There were likely hands-on or theoretical discussions about technical topics.
- Can you describe the manufacturing process at your former employer?
Field Applications Engineer
We started with a phone screening from the Staffing Program Specialist. Then, we had a pretty long face to face interview, like 4 hours, with a bunch of people: the Product Manager, SVP of Operations, Sr. Director of Product Marketing, and the System Qualification Test Engineering Manager. Finally, I had a last interview with the FAE hiring manager.
- A customer is aware of a new firmware version (from a different vendor but using the same SSD controller model as a Unigen SSD) and asks if they can apply it to the Unigen SSD. The customer has read the release notes and needs a fix that is in this new firmware. How would you respond to the customer? Is this a recommended action?
