The manager was late for the interview, and then it was a very short 5 minute interview. They said they would let me know later that day, but they never did. I reached out the next day and they never responded, and I didn't get any explanation about whether the job was filled.

I had red flags from the very beginning. I applied and was contacted less than 12 hours later. The interviewer called 30 minutes early for our phone interview, which I wasn't ready for, and he spoke to me in a degrading tone. He then put me on an uncomfortable hold when his wife called. I had concerns, but he treated me like I was stupid. I asked about Brazilian waxing, which is not permitted in NJ. He Googled it and showed me an old article to prove me wrong. He didn't seem to know current NJ regulations (pg. 5 of state mandated regulations) which only mention removing hair from specific body parts, not the genital area. Because of this technicality, I don't feel safe doing Brazilians as it's not covered by my license or insurance. He sarcastically questioned me and belittled me about this. He had little knowledge of state regulations for someone opening a wax center, which is unprofessional and unsafe. Other companies like Ulta Beauty follow stateboard and don't offer Brazilians. He also required at least 40 hours/week with low pay and no benefits, which might be illegal in NJ as of Oct 2018. I expect respect from potential employers.

It was a pretty simple interview process. The first part was an online Zoom interview, and then I had an in-person interview later. They asked me about how I'd handled a situation in the past and wanted to confirm my availability.

The interview process was pretty fast and straightforward, maybe around 15 minutes max. They asked me to briefly introduce myself, explain my interest in the role, and discuss my prior employment and student status.
