Parking Enforcement Officer
The hiring process was quick. After submitting my application, I received a response within 4 days. I was then invited for an in-person interview on campus one morning. When I arrived, I signed in at the parking front desk. Soon after, the interviewer came out, greeted me, and led me to his office. A colleague joined us shortly. They asked me questions for about 40 minutes, and I finished by asking them some questions. Two days later, I got a call with a job offer. I requested 24 hours to decide, and they sent an email confirming the salary and offer details. I decided to turn down the offer for other options.
- How would you manage difficult customer interactions, particularly with angry clients?
- Describe your approach to handling an irate client when communicating via phone.
- Given that people on campus tend to dislike parking officers, how would you address this sentiment?
Resident Assistant
The interview was set up as a rotating panel. I spoke with about 4 to 6 people who were a mix of supervisors and current RAs. They asked me questions about how I'd handle crises, personal experiences, and why I want the job. Each interview segment was about 10 minutes, but there was extra time built in to chat about job stuff.
- Can you share an instance where you resolved a conflict? What was effective, and what would you change about your approach?
- Tell me about a time you managed a crisis situation.
- What drives your interest in this Resident Assistant position?
Assistant Professor
I was invited for an on-campus visit that included a job talk and a teaching demonstration. However, I sensed early on that I wasn't a top contender. During our first meal, someone on the committee repeatedly mentioned my young age and lack of teaching experience. It felt like I was only invited to fulfill their quota for interviewees. This was disheartening after I'd spent months preparing. The dean was also late to our brief meeting. I realized they were primarily interested in extracting details from me, a recent MFA graduate, because they intended to launch a similar MFA program. I felt exploited, which was disappointing given my initial positive impression of the university and program.
- Given your youth and limited teaching experience, how do you think you can contribute to our program?
Associate Director
The job was cancelled and relaunched a couple of times. I interviewed with about 4 or 5 people. They asked me about my university experience, my job motivation, and how I'd handle different situations. The last stage was supposed to be with the director, but I didn't get to that part. In the end, they hired someone internally and I never heard back. I saw the position got cancelled and relaunched twice more.
- What makes you want to work for this university?
- What is the university known for?
- Why are you interested in working for our organization?
