& Process

I first spoke with the department manager on the phone. Then, I had another phone call with the department manager and two team members. After that, I did an in-person interview with the department manager, two team members, and the Vice Chancellor. I also had to do a training presentation.

Interviews were spread throughout the day, including one-on-one meetings and departmental sessions. A strong emphasis was placed on the candidate's clinical experience, even though the position isn't clinical, and on their definition of what constitutes a 'real nurse.'

The interview process was pretty standard. It was a 3 tier process. I applied online with my portfolio. After they emailed me saying they liked my resume and portfolio and wanted to schedule an interview, I interviewed. Once I interviewed, they told me that they would like to continue the interview process and gave me a design project to complete with a deadline. After I submitted that, they compared my work with the other designers that had made it through that far. So your previous work, application, interview, and design project all have to be excellent if you want to be able to get a job here.

You can expect questions about teamwork, how you interact with others, your management approach, or if you can work well in a diverse setting. Go over the job posting again and think about what else they might ask, and have honest, brief answers ready that show off your work and life experiences. If you get a question you didn't expect, take a breath and a moment to think about your experiences to find the best answer. On interview day, dress right, show up early, and be calm and ready in your mind. Bring references if they aren't on your resume already. And most importantly, just relax and be you.
