Research Program Manager
Got a reply about setting up an interview about 7 days after the job posting closed. The interview itself was 30 minutes long via zoom with 2 researchers. It was a standard interview and I got rejected about a month later.
- Can you describe your approach to mentorship?
Program Manager
The whole thing took about 3 months, starting in mid-October and wrapping up end of January. First, I had a phone interview with two people. They asked basic stuff about my background. About three weeks after that, they emailed me to come in for an in-person interview. That day, I had five interviews, each lasting 30 to 60 minutes. They asked typical interview questions, and it seemed like they'd decide in a week. But two weeks later, I got an email saying they wanted another round of interviews to check cultural fit. This was a two-hour, one-on-one. Three weeks after that, HR emailed to say I didn't get the job. The process was really badly managed by the hiring committee head. Interviews were scheduled last minute and changed twice. My emails were often ignored, and I never heard from the hiring committee head after the decision. It was super unprofessional and a bad look for UNC.
- Tell me about a time you had to make a fast decision and what the outcome was.
Program Manager
I sent in my resume and cover letter, then had a phone interview and after that an in person interview. I met with the whole staff. They asked questions, and I also had to provide a writing sample and a bunch of other work examples which felt like a lot. HR called me with an offer over the phone. They mentioned that the salary and benefits were firm.
