First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Umbel.
People Operations Manager
My interview experience was great. I spoke with the Director of First Impressions, the President, and the CEO. The process included essay questions about company issues for this role. This helped filter candidates and get their perspectives. Everyone I met represented the company well. I had two in-person interviews after a phone call. There were some delays in updates, partly due to vacations. Improving communication timeliness would be good, but I understand being deliberate in hiring takes time.
- What made you interested in Umbel?
- Tell me about issues at Umbel that this role would need to tackle.
- What are your thoughts on handling company issues?
Sales
I had several phone calls with senior management. The CRO was the only one who seemed human and approachable. Others mostly talked about themselves or their differing visions, or asked standard interview questions. I thought the team would be great because the CRO seemed like a good leader. However, I was then asked to put together a difficult presentation with minimal guidance. Since I was already working full-time, I spent my evenings on this presentation, which made me dislike Umbel. By the time I presented, I had already decided against working there due to the one-sided process. I understand they make the process cumbersome to filter out less committed candidates. Overall, it was not a good experience and I wouldn't recommend it unless you're very eager to join or have no other options.
- Can you present a product that you have never seen before and without any information or background details about it?
Client Partner
I chatted with around 10 folks over a couple of weeks, and it was a really great process. They were super fair to me, I found out a lot about the company, and I got a solid feel for the team and what they're trying to achieve.
- How did you handle a recent client challenge, transforming it into a positive outcome or opportunity?
- Can you share an instance where you felt strongly about an idea and had to advocate for it? What was the result?
- What is your experience with technical skills and how comfortable are you working in a startup setting?
