Behavioral Technical Presentation

The interview process for a scientist at the UKHSA is pretty structured, following the Civil Service Success Profiles. You'll get competency-based questions focusing on behaviours like 'Delivering at Pace', 'Making Effective Decisions', and 'Working Together', often with scenarios. You might also have to show your science knowledge with a technical task or a presentation related to the job. Make sure to use the STAR method for your answers and link your experience to what the job needs.

Behavioral Technical

It was a 30 min interview held online. The panel (3 of them) were very friendly and their questions were based on the person specifications. The interview was followed by a STATA test which assessed my knowledge of common data cleaning and processing commands. The test was for an hour. I was not given an offer but was put on reserve

Technical Behavioral

It was an online interview via Teams, with a three-person panel, scheduled for 45 minutes. We started by discussing a pre-interview task where I had to create a reproducible report on the epidemiology of a disease outbreak. I was expecting behavioural and strength-based questions related to the job description and my research on UKHSA interviews, but the focus shifted heavily to technical questions about disease outbreaks, virus characteristics, and data governance facts. Most of these were closed questions with a clear right/wrong answer, easily searchable online. This style of questioning caught me off guard; it felt awkward when I didn't know an answer and didn't really let me show how I'd be a good fit for the role, feeling more like a test. I left feeling quite deflated.
