Recruiting Coordinator
I went through a standard screening interview, then had to complete 3 eSkills assessments for grammar, English, and Excel. After that, a recruiter had me do a personality assessment. The final step was a very short 10-minute chat with the whole C-suite panel, where I couldn't ask any questions. I got an offer that same day and had 24 hours to decide. I never got to see the office or talk to my direct supervisor until I set that up myself. The office was mostly empty and very uninspiring. My chat with the executive VP who would be my supervisor didn't give me a good feeling about mentorship, and it seemed like management wants to control everything, even how you decorate your cubicle. I turned down the offer.
- Can you tell me the top three qualities that define you?
Implementation Specialist
The interview process is pretty tough, but it does a really good job of making sure they only hire qualified people. Everyone, no matter what job they're going for, has to take a grammar and spelling test. This might seem a bit much to some, but honestly, in a professional workplace, having correct spelling and grammar is just part of the deal. After that, you'll have a panel interview with the executive board, which includes the CEO.
- What are your thoughts on the importance of customer service?
Sales Representative
I applied for a Sales Rep role online and then got an email from Rossana Scaglia to take a skills test. I told her I wouldn't take the test unless there was a base salary of 48k or more because the posting didn't list compensation details. She confirmed and scheduled my test. I took off work for this copy editing/spelling test. A week later, Rossana emailed again for an interview with the Hiring Manager, Laura Ann McGinnis. I took off work again, but got a call to reschedule for later that week because something came up with Laura. I took off work a third time. When I got there, I had a good chat with Rossana while waiting 20 mins past my interview time for Laura (plus I was 10 mins early). The interview started fine, but then Laura discussed compensation and benefits vaguely. I probed and found out it's straight commission with no draw, paid only once a month (commissions are a month behind), and there's a 90-day trial period where you might work for free. I was upset because I'd taken 3 days off work after telling them not to schedule the test unless they could meet my base salary requirement. Laura tried to justify her earlier comments by mentioning a 'book of business', which turned out to be just a list of potential clients, not existing customers or interested prospects. This whole experience felt like a scam.
- Considering many candidates want this job, why are you the only one bothered by the lack of a base salary?
Staff Writer
I reached out about potential accommodations for the skills test due to my disability. I emailed recruiting and left phone messages over two weeks with no response. The day before the test, I called the main line and was told no one was available to help. I emailed again explaining my situation, and finally got a call back from recruiting. The recruiter didn't seem to understand what 'requesting an accommodation' means. When I asked about equipment, they said I didn't need to bring anything, but I clarified I meant the tester's equipment. They described the test as a paper test anyone could take, which surprised me given how it could be a barrier for people with certain disabilities. I shared that my experience trying to get answers about accommodations was difficult and suggested they look into streamlining the process for others. I explained my concern as a patient advocate was to help remove barriers for others, and that I hoped they'd welcome the feedback to improve the process for future applicants.
