First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ucla Recreation.
Consultant
I applied through handshake and then we had a group interview with a lot of situational questions. They asked what was wrong with certain scenarios or what I would do if I were in a specific situation.
- What's one thing wrong with this picture?
Customer Service Specialist
I had a Zoom interview with two supervisors from the Customer Service division. It was pretty laid-back and I felt comfortable. It lasted about 30 minutes, but it went by fast. A few days later, I heard back and got the job.
- Can you tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult customer and how you managed the situation?
Fitness Instructor
Had a phone interview first where we discussed the population I would be working with and the class schedule. Then there was a teaching interview where I had to teach a class and was observed. Compensation is based on if the interview is successful and a job offer is made. It's like a standard audition for one of the classes I might teach. It was a chill process, and they gave me a quick tour of the class spaces and showed me the supplies. The actual pay details came after the offer because it depends on a few things. They gave me a general range when they offered me the job.
- What led you to become a fitness instructor?
- What experience do you have with training?
Student Supervisor
The interview touched on a lot of things about customer service and my interaction experience. I also had to share some stories about tough times in my life and use words to describe myself. Two staff members, one peer and one supervisor, conducted the interview, which lasted about 15-20 minutes. It felt pretty good because having both a peer and a supervisor made it feel less scary. Overall, it was a good experience.
- Can you describe your personal qualities?
- Tell me about a challenging experience you've had.
- Share some examples of your experience with customer service and interactions.
