First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at UC San Francisco.
Data Scientist
Since the role was for a small lab, I think there were only one or two interview rounds. The PI and lab manager interviewed me. They asked a lot of questions about my grades from undergrad and masters, not just my GPA but specific course grades, which I found a little strange. Apart from that, they asked the typical behavioral questions and some about DS/ML applications and projects.
- Could you provide an overview of your resume?
- Could you elaborate on your specific course grades from both your undergraduate and master's degrees?
- What were your GPA and specific course grades during your undergraduate and master's studies?
Data Scientist Intern
The whole interview thing was super easy and went really well. It was mostly just simple questions about me, which made it not stressful at all. My mentor was the one interviewing me and they were really nice and helpful, making it feel chill and comfortable.
- Can you tell me about your resume?
Data Scientist
The interview process included a take-home case study, which was a 3-hour assignment to analyze a generic dataset and present findings. Following that, there was an in-person interview with the entire 8-person team, and then a smaller technical interview specifically with the data science team.
- What is your approach to acceptance testing an A/B test?
- Can this type of modeling address particular questions?
