I spoke with someone from UCI's Extension over the phone. They were nice and seemed professional. They told me about the pay for Big Data instructors at UCI, which was much lower than what other places would pay a contract instructor. Plus, the UCI course is longer and takes more work than a typical vendor course. The whole conversation felt a bit unrealistic, honestly.

The LARC office emails students with GPAs over 3.25 and who did really well in certain subjects. You then have a limited time to submit an application with your unofficial transcript and two faculty recommendations. Get your application in ASAP, especially if your GPA is near 3.25, since how early you apply is a big factor in getting an interview. The interview itself is a group one with about 2-3 other people, and it's pretty laid-back. My interviewer kept saying to relax and that there was no judgment. They asked stuff like what makes a great tutor and if you'd hang out with other tutors and go to LARC events. They really want to build a community and supportive vibe in the LARC program, which is how a tutor should act with students.

Group Presentation

First contact was through emails and calls. The UCI program coordinators handled the organization and planning for the interview. We had one group phone screen where I had to present material for the course curriculum. The process was efficient and effective.
