U.S. Department of Transportation Interview Questions
& Process

I applied in January and got an email mid-January saying I was a good fit. Early February, I had a panel interview with 3 supervisors and an HR person. They asked me about my experience and work style (like how much initiative I take) with examples. They also explained the job duties. Each person on the panel asked questions, and they seemed nice but busy. I didn't hear back for a month, so I emailed HR. She said I was in the background check/security review phase. I did my fingerprints in early March. I was hired in early April and started orientation mid-April. I was supposed to get an offer letter, but I had to ask HR for it during orientation. I didn't get a list of my actual tasks until late May.

The process began with an online application on USA jobs, which was quite detailed and asked many filtering questions. After that, I received a phone call for an interview. The interview itself was conducted over the phone, followed by a test that I emailed back. The job offer came soon after, but the whole thing took about 3 months. Communication throughout was minimal, making it hard to know the status.

I applied on USA jobs.com and it took about 60 days to hear back. Once I did, I had an in-person interview with four supervisors. They asked me technical questions about my knowledge. It took another three months to get on board, which felt like a long time. The main reasons I didn't rate this experience higher were the long wait time and the lack of communication during the hiring process.

It was a pretty chill process, and they really seemed invested in making sure it was a mutual fit. The team seems a bit male-dominated at the moment, but there looks to be opportunities for advancement. The panel interview was fairly modern, with one interviewer joining via FaceTime from Seattle. They inquired about what I've contributed to my current agency.
