First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at U.S. Commercial Service.
International Trade Intern
The interview might be remote or in-person. You'll likely have a panel interview with the office director and a couple of current interns who can tell you about the day-to-day. They ask nice questions and it's a friendly vibe, but you really need to know what the agency does because they'll ask you about it.
- Could you share what you know about our organization?
- Which has been your favorite class and explain why?
- Describe a time you spoke publicly about your research findings.
International Business and Market Research
I applied online and then had one in-person interview at my college campus. The interviewer was really nice and hired me right there, pending a background check and fingerprinting. The whole thing was about 30 minutes. Since the job was for the next semester, I had time for the background check and fingerprinting. They asked about my familiarity with the US Commercial Service and my resume.
- What do you know about the US Commercial Service?
- Tell me about your resume.
Intern
The interview process involved standard questions, some of which were related to my resume. They also inquired about my areas of interest. Although the interviewers were friendly, it took some time to receive an offer. After the offer was made, there was a security interview and a check.
- Standard questions were asked.
- Some questions were about my resume.
- Which areas were you more interested in?
International Trade Intern
The interview was a single round. It was very casual and included typical interview questions like asking about your strengths, weaknesses, and how you handle working virtually. They also asked what you know about the company. Remember to prepare some questions to ask them.
- How good are you at working in a virtual setting and what are your strategies for staying organized?
- How well can you manage working remotely and keep yourself organized?
