First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Typeform.
Engineering Manager
First, a recruiter call where they talked about Typeform's values, their product, what they're looking for, and the upcoming interviews, also answered my questions. Then, a System Design round with two other EMs, where I had to design a specific problem, discussing scalability, reliability, and my design choices. Round three was about People Management, focusing on execution, delivery, teamwork, knowledge sharing, and ethics through scenarios. Finally, a Behavioural Interview covering Leadership, World-Class Engineering, Attitude, and my motivation for Typeform. I was advised to use the STAR method for this.
- Tell me about a time you had to resolve conflicts within your team.
- Can you describe a situation where you managed a low-performing employee and what steps you took to help them improve?
Engineering Manager
It was pretty simple. First, a call with the recruiter. Then, three interviews focusing on specific skills: step 1 was system design and architecture, step 2 was about managerial skills and experience, and step 3 was for cultural fit. Finally, I had a round with the CTO.
- For the system design problem, please provide a solution and analyze the pros and cons of different approaches.
- What are the advantages and disadvantages of the solutions you proposed for the system design problem?
- Tell me about your experience with managerial situations.
Engineering Manager
I first had some chats with an external recruiter who was working with Typeform. The actual interview process had three parts: System Design Interview, People Management Interview, and Behavioural Interview. Each of these lasted about an hour. Only the System Design one was kind of technical. The interviewers made me feel super comfortable in all of them. It was a good experience.
- Can you share an example of a difficult decision you've had to make in your role as a manager?
