First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at TxDOT.
Transportation Engineer
When I got there, the door was locked and it took a while to get someone to open it. After that, I was given a list of questions to prepare for briefly before starting. The questions seemed straightforward, but I imagine the answers could be rated subjectively.
- Can you discuss your experience with roadways?
Transportation Engineer
Got a call from a new supervisor for a job I applied for. Since I just started a new job, I got an after-hours interview about a week later. It was a formal interview with written questions, and the interviewer just wrote down my answers instead of talking. I asked about the work and business processes, but didn't get much info. The interview was cut short after less than an hour because the interviewer got a call. I didn't see any projects, learn about workload, or meet the team. I got a call the next day showing interest, and more calls over a few weeks for references. A verbal offer came about 3.5 weeks after the interview, but no written one. I declined the low offer and countered. They declined my counter and repeated the original offer with a take-it-or-leave-it deadline.
- The questions all probed my experience and expertise related to the job requirements.
- Two of the questions were very similar, just phrased differently, and they probed my experience and expertise related to the job requirements.
Transportation Engineer
They sent me a list of 8 interview questions that I could answer in any order. There was also time for some questions at the end. It took about an hour.
- Can you describe your experience with safety and safety protocols from your past work?
- Tell me about your experience with safety and safety protocols in your previous work experience.
