Two's Company Interview Questions
& Process

I reached out to the company about a job opening and they responded the same day. We scheduled an interview for that week. It was great meeting the hiring manager; she seemed really happy in her role and was very friendly. Even though she was busy, she took the time to give me a detailed rundown of the job and what the company culture is like. She also reviewed my portfolio and answered all my questions about the role. She even responded quickly to a follow-up email I sent. HR was also very helpful. It was actually one of the most relaxed and pleasant interviews I've ever had.

Applied online and got a call back within a few days. Had an interview scheduled for two days later. First, I met with the hiring manager, then with HR. The chat with the hiring manager went fine, but it seemed to go south with HR. I found the HR person to be really condescending and they quizzed me on what the hiring manager had said about the job. For some reason, the topic of long-term employees came up (many have been there over a decade). I said it shows how great the company must be for people to stay so long, but HR then went on a defensive rant, saying it's a tough place to work and they learn something new daily. Weird. I also noticed nobody smiled or spoke to anyone in the halls, not even a nod when going to the copier or restroom. It struck me as strange and not a place I could imagine myself working.

I started with a phone screen from the HR rep. She thought I was a good match and set me up with the President, Tom Gottlieb, for a face-to-face interview. He took a few minutes to read my resume, which I felt showed he hadn't seen it before and didn't value my time. He immediately seemed to think my skills weren't a fit and started with a condescending challenge question about my background. Despite this, I stayed engaged. I sent a thank you email to both HR and the President. The company never responded, leaving me with a lesson learned.

I had 2 interviews for this role. While they emphasized professionalism, which I maintained, I never received a response even after following up 3 times. It seems like a great company, but their lack of response to my follow-ups was disappointing. They should practice what they preach. It's a shame because I would have loved to work there.
