First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Twilio.
Principal Program Manager
The interview process was pretty standard, vetting for Twilio magic qualities. I interviewed with cross-functional team members and the PM team. I liked the process; it didn't feel like an interrogation. The people here are friendly and great, and they encourage opportunities for growth.
- Which Twilio magic quality do you like the most?
Program Manager
The process started with a recruiter screen where they gave me a salary range that was lower than my minimum, but they mentioned a flexible ceiling. Then I had an interview with the Hiring Manager. Another recruiter, who they called a 'Talent Partner,' reconfirmed the base salary range the day before the main interview loop. The loop consisted of 4 interviews, each 45 minutes long. These were focused on cultural fit, and they expected me to show extensive knowledge and examples related to the company's values. An offer came a week after the final interview, but I didn't get a response to my follow-up emails before that. The whole process took 8 weeks from beginning to offer. The offer was at the low end of their stated base range, even after I made it clear I needed to be at or above the high end. The 'Talent Partner' claimed they were always communicating the total compensation range, not just the base salary, which I disputed because I was very specific about referring to base salary. I would not have spent 7 hours interviewing and much more time preparing if I had known the offer would be so far below market value and my 12+ years of experience.
- Can you share your experiences on how you haven't settled down and ruthlessly prioritize while managing programs at scale?
- Tell me about a time you have been bold and an owner while interacting with cross-functional teams and BU dependencies.
- Describe how you have written things down and been inclusive.
Program Manager
The interview process was about 7 hours long. It kicked off with a recruiter call, then video calls with different team members and a 'Bar Raiser' who checks how you fit with Twilio's Magic values. Everyone on the panel was really nice and kept things pretty relaxed and conversational, seeming supportive and keen to see you do your best. However, communication with the recruitment team could have been better. I ended up talking to four different people, and it wasn't clear who my main point of contact was. Their internal comms seemed a bit shaky, causing some confusion. It would have been useful to know the total number of rounds upfront and an estimate for when to expect a decision to manage expectations and timelines.
- Can you provide detailed information about your role, the specific actions you took, and the results you achieved?
- Describe your understanding and alignment with the Twilio Magic values.
