I applied online for the English & Humanities Tutor job. I said I had full availability, flexibility, enthusiasm, and a Bachelor's degree in English Literature. A recruiter called me while I was at my current job, but I took a break to answer because I was afraid of playing phone tag. They asked why I wanted to teach multiple times and where I saw my future going. I thought this was odd since many tutoring companies hire temporary high school/college students. I mentioned I was fine with temporary work but could also commit to the maximum hours offered. The interviewer then said they didn't need English tutors, only tutors for SATs/ACTs. I was confused because I applied for English, standardized tests have English sections, and tutors are needed year-round, not just for SAT prep. I felt my time was wasted and wondered if my retail job in my late 20s was a factor, as I'm seeking experience. It's a shame an education company might not realize the job market is tough and that lack of experience keeps people in retail. The whole process felt disorganized and disappointing.

The interview process was really simple. It was just one interview, and it was super straightforward. They asked me about my past experience and what my strengths and weaknesses were. I got the offer about a week after the interview. The whole thing took about 30 minutes. The person interviewing me was really nice.

The interview involved me doing an exam paper to check my math knowledge and problem-solving skills for the tutoring job. After the exam, I answered questions about my teaching methods, how I'd explain tough stuff, and how I'd help students lacking confidence or motivation.
