First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tulsa Public Schools.
English Teacher
It was a super easy process, no difficulties at all. The staff were great, always helpful and easy to reach. The whole thing took about two weeks.
- Tell me about your past experiences working with special needs children.
Data Strategist
The application process was very involved. I had two informal interviews. Then, I was given a lot of tasks to complete without any compensation. While that might have been acceptable, the team ended up ghosting me. It would have been polite if they had at least gotten back to me or responded to my requests for an update or feedback instead of ignoring them.
- Could you explain why you haven't utilized code for analytics in your present role?
Marketing Outreach
The process felt way too long, honestly. They had me do essays tied to core values, with a 200-word minimum, which was just a time sink, especially considering the whole interview ordeal. My first call was with the Executive Director of Communications, which should've been enough. She was all over the place, sounded like she was outside, then inside, then got in her car and was driving around. We got disconnected a bunch, and I had to repeat myself constantly. Nearly two months later, I got asked for a second interview with the director, who seemed way more professional and intelligent. But I decided not to proceed because the whole process was just too drawn out and inefficient. This job was for a three-year grant, but education jobs are usually just one-year contracts. If you can't figure out if someone's a good fit or qualified after two interviews, your process needs work. It felt like such a waste of time and resources for something that should be straightforward.
- Could you talk about your strengths and weaknesses and explain your reasoning?
School Counselor
The interview process was straightforward. I had a meeting with the principal where we talked about my educational philosophy. It's important that the candidate is knowledgeable about Social Emotional Learning Practices. We also reviewed behavior modification programs and discussed my strengths and areas where I can grow.
- Which S.E.L. Practices do you agree with?
- Can you tell me about your philosophy of education?
- Do you have a strong understanding of Social emotional learning Practices?
