Technical Coding

I had a call with HR, then got a take-home test with 3 problems. The test was about NumPy arrays and writing efficient code, specifically no Python loops were allowed. I also had to write unit tests for my solution. The desired output format wasn't clear, and I got rejected without knowing the exact reason, even though the problems seemed straightforward.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Manipulate NumPy arrays.
  • Perform vectorized computation on NumPy arrays without using Python loops.
  • Develop unit tests to validate the code.

Technical Coding

The first round was a technical screen focusing on linear algebra and statistics. The statistics part covered topics like ridge regression and stochastic gradient descent. Specifically, I had to write out the precise formula for the SGD algorithm in a particular scenario and determine its theoretical limit for that problem.

Confirmed questions5 questions
  • Given an n x n matrix where each row has k ones and n-k zeros, with k ranging from 0 to n, and the positions of these ones and zeros being selectable, for which values of k is it possible to construct an invertible matrix, and for which values is it not possible?
  • Can you discuss ridge regression?
  • Can you discuss stochastic gradient descent?

I did a take home test first, which had two parts: one about infra and another to build a cli. After that, I had two online interviews. Both of them asked me CV questions, questions about my projects, and had live coding tasks. Then, I had four on-site interviews covering data parsing, pandas, probability, and infra. Lastly, I interviewed with the CTO.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Regarding the four main SQL join types, what are the min/max row counts returned when joining a 100-row table with a 10-row table?

Technical Coding Behavioral

I went through a months-long interview process with the Pipeline group, including multiple online interviews, several coding tests, and an onsite super-day. It felt like a waste of time because after months, communication just stopped with no feedback. The questions seemed focused on gathering ideas rather than assessing skills, like "describe the strategy that made the most money." It felt unprofessional and disorganized, and other candidates have had similar experiences. Be cautious and manage expectations.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Can you describe a strategy you developed that was particularly successful or that you're most proud of?
