First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at TSA.
Tso
In 2010, I had two interviewers ask me questions. They weren't standard "Why should we hire you?" questions. All questions were behavior-type questions, usually starting with, "Tell me about a time...Give me an example of a time...Describe a specific situation...etc...". They focused on core values like integrity, teamwork, conflict management, and split-second decision-making.
- Can you describe a situation where you made an unpopular decision? How did you manage it and what were the outcomes?
Transportation Security Officer
It involved testing, an interview, and being placed in a pool. There was a phone call, then acceptance. After that, there was training in a classroom and hands-on training. You'll take a test and then get your tabs to be certified, be sworn in, and receive a certificate, all the paperwork, and the rules.
- What would you do if your supervisor told you to do something that went against regulations?
TSA Agent
The whole process took about 3 hours. We had to wait for some candidates who were late, which felt like a lot of wasted time because we could have started on the paperwork. It wasn't very organized, and the interviewers seemed grumpy.
- Were general questions asked that weren't specific to your previous jobs?
Tso
Two officers sit down with you and ask a series of questions based on what you will do in situations at the job. The process was about 20 minutes because they were so many questions and they both were writing things down.
- Would you describe yourself as a hard worker, and can you explain why?
