So the whole thing started with a virtual chat with the recruiter, which was pretty standard. Then I had another virtual chat with one of the hiring managers. Both of those went well, felt like they were asking good questions and it was a good vibe. After that, they had me come in for an on-site interview. I met with two more hiring managers there. Each of those chats lasted like half an hour. Everyone I met was super chill, friendly, and professional. The only bummer was after the final interview, like the follow-up was a mess. I hit up the recruiter about a week later, no reply. So I tried the first hiring manager the week after that and they said they were still interviewing people. It's been over a month now and still nothing, no update, no closure. The actual interview part was fine though, totally smooth and organized. It just sucks to have put in the time and money to travel for the in-person one and then get ghosted.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

So I went through 9 rounds of interviews at Trustmark and they gave me good feedback all along. I met with senior leadership like the VP of Technology, VP of Strategy, Director of Strategy, VP of Infrastructure, CISO, CIO, and Talent Acquisition. The people I met were professional, and the VP of hiring was really nice and seemed to want me on the team. After all the interviews, Trustmark started their internal offer process, which made it seem like an offer was coming. But, after I spent a lot of time interviewing, prepping, and doing a final onsite, the C-suite said no because I don't have a college degree. The real problem isn't the decision, it's that the Talent Acquisition process failed completely. If they needed a degree, they should have said so at the start, not after 9 interviews and talking with execs and already talking about offers. Letting someone go that far in the process only to be rejected at the end shows a big disconnect between Talent Acquisition, leadership, and the exec approval process. It's uncoordinated and disrespectful of candidates' time. With almost 30 years of tech leadership experience, it was weird they cared so much about old degree requirements instead of actual experience and ability to transform things. Lots of big tech leaders like Michael Dell, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg didn't finish college, which shows how irrelevant that requirement can be. Trustmark's tech leadership seems to want to modernize, but this experience shows that old ways of thinking are still around, making real change hard. The interviewers themselves were good people. But the process was managed badly, leading to a frustrating and totally avoidable outcome after I invested so much time.

So, I applied for an Eligibility Analyst job, but HR called me back. They thought given my salary expectations and experience, I should check out the Customer Service role instead and apply for that. Anyway, they set up an interview for the next Monday. It was supposed to be about a 2-hour commitment for an assessment and the interview itself.

I had an initial chat with HR, and then the department manager interviewed me a few days later. The manager explained the job details really well, and it seemed like a really supportive team. I think the next step will be another interview, probably with HR.
