First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Trust for the National Mall.
Manager
After a phone screen, there were two interview rounds. The questions were reasonable, but it seemed like they weren't as open to remote work as they claimed. I was annoyed that they asked me to come to DC for the final interview last minute and didn't cover any costs. I ended up driving 20 hours for a 90-minute interview because flights were so expensive. Then I got a generic rejection letter. They mentioned office culture a lot during the interview.
- Can you share an experience of working with people who have very different approaches?
- Tell me about a time you managed a project with unrealistic deadlines.
Director
The interview process included an initial phone chat, then a Zoom meeting, and finally several in-person interviews at their office. I noticed that the staff seemed a bit uneasy, and there was turnover happening while I was interviewing. It was frustrating to make multiple trips to their office only to receive a delayed rejection, especially since the entire process dragged on for weeks and took up a significant amount of my time. Although the staff appeared to be very optimistic about my application, I felt an immediate hesitation when I mentioned I was fine with working two days a week in the office, which actually aligned with the job description's requirement of just two days. The whole experience left me feeling disappointed after being so eager to interview with them.
- What's your method for dealing with workplace conflict?
- How do you approach pushing back when leadership makes a decision?
- Describe how you handle conflict at work.
Philanthropy Assistant
I only got to the first phone screen round. I got an email after saying they were moving forward with people who had more targeted scheduling experience. It wasn't a bad interview or process from the little I experienced.
- Can you tell me about your scheduling experience?
Program Assistant
I had a phone screening, then a zoom interview with the program director. After that, I wasn't contacted again and didn't hear if I got the job or not.
- What makes you want to apply for this position?
