The interview process was pretty great because Truss is really good at communicating. It was a 3-step process and they kept me updated before and after each step. First, I had an initial chat with the recruiter. Then, there was a panel interview with 2-3 people from Truss. Finally, I interviewed with the hiring manager. The interviews felt more like conversations, and the interviewers were prepared and it was structured but still flowed well, with lots of time for questions. Expect situational questions like 'Tell me about a time...'. The whole thing took about 3 weeks.

The interview process started with a 30-minute screener with a Sr. UX Designer. Next, there was a 60-minute interview with two engineers, which Truss described as a general conversation about the position and my experience. Following that, a 90-minute interview with two Sr. UX Designers took place. This included 10 minutes for introductions, 20 minutes for a portfolio walk-through, and a 60-minute collaborative pairing exercise. In this exercise, one facilitator introduced a problem statement, I had 15 minutes for quiet work, and then we worked on the exercise together for 40 minutes, with a few minutes at the end to discuss. The final round was a 30-minute interview with one of the three founders.

Behavioral Technical Coding

I applied online and a recruiter contacted me for a behavioral interview with an engineer and a designer. The interview went well, they seemed like good people who liked their jobs. It was mostly high-level questions about teamwork. Scheduling the next interview was delayed a lot. My contact person changed twice. Finally, I had the technical interview, which also went well. The interviewers were nice and seemed to enjoy their work. A couple weeks later, they said they liked me but needed more junior people due to changing contract needs and would reach out if something opened up. Months later, the same job was posted. I asked to continue my process, and a recruiter said they could, but I had to wait for the cohort to catch up. After 6 months, it felt disorganized and confusing. I never really spoke to a recruiter, only got emails. They said they liked me but then ignored me for long periods. I declined to continue and took another job.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The interview process involved at least 5 stages, and I successfully completed 4 of them. It started with a phone screen conducted by one person. Following that, there were two interviews with two people each, focusing on situational aspects. Then, I was given a work sample to complete within a week. After submitting the work sample, there was a review interview, again with two interviewers. The final stage was a final interview, which I did not get to experience as I didn't receive an invitation for it.

  • Tell me about how you handle managing the expectations of a client who is very ambitious.
