First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Truman State University.
Coordinator
I was interviewed on a panel, but they ended up hiring a previous employee who had previously left but then expressed interest in coming back. So, they hired the ex-employee instead. The interview was long and mostly consisted of the standard questions. They asked me why they should hire me, and also asked questions about previous employees.
- What were your reasons for leaving your past positions?
- Describe your approach to resolving workplace conflicts.
Marketing Coordinator
I had a phone interview with the hiring manager that was about 45 minutes plus my questions. It was in-depth but pretty chill. After that, I took a personality quiz. Then, I had an in-person interview with the hiring manager and another manager where they asked a lot of questions, but it was still laid back. I got to meet a lot of the staff during the in-person. I also got a small project to finish with a 2-3 day turnaround.
- For an event, what are the first things you'd put in your marketing plan?
Student Advisor
So first there was an online application with some short answer questions. About a week after the application deadline, they sent an email if I qualified for the interview stage. There were several interview days to choose from. The interview stage had one professional interview with several Residence Hall staff and also several group activities with other applicants. The professional interview was pretty generic with all the typical interview questions. The group activities were super creative and fun. Like one activity, we had to make a game or sport using a box of random toys.
- What experience do you have with advising and counseling people who are facing difficulties?
Truman
It was pretty easy. I knew a lot of people already that worked here and I went to the University as well so I am sure that opened a lot of doors for me as well. The interviewers made me feel relaxed and at home and really made me feel comfortable. Most of the questions I knew the answers to so the interview went very smoothly.
- What is your 20-year career plan?
