First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Truckee Meadows Community College.
Instructor
The interview process was very informal. There was no real structure to the interview process. My sense was that filling positions was challenging so the process was easy to get through.
- Can you tell me about your background and experience related to the subject you will teach?
Administrative Assistant
I sat down with three other people for the interview. They each asked me questions one after another. The vibe was really relaxed and welcoming, and everyone was super nice. They even let me ask them questions so I could get a better handle on what they were asking me.
- How do you define diversity?
English Instructor
It was very casual and conversational. I met with the department manager at the cafe on campus, and we talked about my academic background. There were a few situational questions about student discipline and how I would handle things like class disruptions, cheating, or someone who had been placed in my class by mistake, and as long as you take a minute to review the campus policies, you'll be fine answering these.
- If applying part-time, have a syllabus outline and assignment ideas ready for the classes you'd teach.
Math Tutor
I sent in my application, and the Coordinator set up a chat. We talked about the role, what they're looking for, what the goals are, the company culture, and how teamwork works, and then I got the job. It was a super laid-back interview, which is probably why I did so well.
- What is your greatest strength and your biggest weakness?
