First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Troy.
Manager
First, I had a phone interview with a contractor. Then, I went to Troy and met with different department heads I'd be working with daily. Each meeting was a one-on-one, and the whole thing took about 3 and a half hours.
- Can you tell me about your experience and knowledge?
- Describe your approach to resolving conflicts among employees.
- How would you handle an underperforming employee?
Sales Manager
It was a pretty standard interview process. I got contacted by a recruiter, who then set me up with HR for a phone call. After that, I spoke with the Sales VP and sales director over the phone. Then, I had in-person interviews at their corporate office with several people involved in the sales process. They also had me complete a personality and skills assessment. They used an online system for me to input 5 references, and all of them were contacted. An external company handled the background and resume verification. I had to provide W2s and 1099s for all prior employment listed on my resume to confirm the employment history. Finally, I had to undergo a company physical, also arranged by an outside service, which was a bit of a hassle. The physical involved two urine samples, one for health and one for drug testing. Unfortunately, the external service lost my drug test sample and only told me weeks later, which was pretty disappointing. I recently found out you don't have to hand over W2s and can just have them contact previous employers directly, which makes sense given how sensitive that information is.
- What was the reason for leaving your previous job?
- How do you handle customer objections related to pricing?
- What are your strategies for identifying and acquiring new customers?
Talent Acquisition Intern
The hiring manager will give you a call to do a phone screen first. It's a basic phone screen with questions like why you are interested in this position, and what your salary expectation is. Then, there will be an on-site interview. During the on-site, the hiring manager will focus mainly on your relevant work experience, like why you like recruiting jobs and what your achievements were in your past roles.
- Out of all your work experiences, which job did you like the most?
Project Manager
The interview process required formal attire, which I was fine with, though it was strange how many people inquired if it would be an issue for me. Most of the interviewers seemed to have experience solely within NJ's chemical industry, and their business practices felt a bit outdated. I was prepared to adapt to that environment. Ultimately, they decided to hire another candidate, a high school chemistry teacher who was looking to transition into Project Management. She lacked any formal training or experience in PM, which might have been viewed favorably.
- Do you have any knowledge of biocides?
