I was contacted by the talent team for a junior QA Engineer role requiring 0-1 years of experience. They sent over a case study, which I completed and submitted on time. The role seemed to expect a broad knowledge of both testing and marketing, even for someone with no prior experience. They liked my case study, and I then had a 2-hour video interview. During the interview, I was questioned extensively about my case study responses. They also asked some questions that seemed aimed at experienced testers rather than freshers, indicating they were looking for someone with a lot of combined marketing and QA experience, but were willing to interview freshers if they had strong knowledge in both areas. After the interview, the team leader made a rather abrupt comment about needing a good learner and walked out. I was ultimately rejected after this video round. When I asked for feedback to work on my weak points, I received an automated reply from two interviewers. It's disappointing they don't provide proper feedback to candidates, especially when expecting experience from those without it, which seems to be the approach of the QA team at Trivago in Dusseldorf.

I did 2 rounds of interviews. The first was a 30-minute chat with the project manager. We covered some general questions about me, the types of testing I've done, why I'm interested in Trivago, and if I understood their working model. They also gave me some info about the company. The second round was with the same project manager and a test lead. They gave me a SQL problem to solve in 10 minutes - it was pretty tough but I managed to get part of it. Then, they showed me a diagram with a really complicated explanation and asked for my testing strategies, which I think I answered well. The interviews went okay overall, but they later told me I didn't make it to the next stage.

The application process included an HR contact and call, followed by tests and several interviews. It was a really positive experience, one of the best I've had, with clear communication from HR and the hiring team. Interviews were informal and put me at ease, giving a good sense of the company culture, which was consistently encouraging. They were knowledgeable and adept at assessing candidates. Follow-up communication and support were also excellent. Compared to previous experiences, this process felt modern and less rigid.
