The interviews were conducted via Zoom and had three parts. The first was with the recruiter, a standard screening to check for fit. Next, I met with the manager for a very casual conversation. Finally, there was a group interview that included the president of the University.

It all started with a quick 20-minute chat at a conference, like a big group interview. I guess it went well because they flew me out for a 3-day onsite. This was a super intense 3 days (about 32 hours total: 8 on day 1, 16 on day 2, 8 on day 3), and it was exhausting. The onsite involved tons of one-on-one meetings with various people, including higher-ups and future colleagues. We also had meals together. I had to give a research presentation and a teaching presentation. They also showed me around the campus and the city. Oh, and there was air travel time on top of all that.

Got a call from the department head who wanted me to interview. It felt pretty informal, but it was with as many faculty members as they could get together. I felt good answering their questions, and they seemed really keen to meet me.

I applied online, and the next week they invited me to come in informally to talk about the job. Three people interviewed me, asking their own questions and going back and forth. It was the only interview, and I heard back about their decision the same day.
