First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Trifacta.
Software Development Engineer in Test
The interview had 3 technical rounds and 1 HR round. I passed two technical rounds. The third technical round was with an interviewer who seemed overly confident, possibly due to his service-based company background and 12 years of experience. He seemed to have an inferiority complex, and despite my correct answers and a HashMap program, he didn't grasp the logic. He also asked many irrelevant questions. From my experience, it's better to avoid companies that don't have a structured interview process.
- Asked simple programming questions in any language, focusing on Strings and basic logic, without involving Data Structures or Algorithms.
Fullstack Developer
So there were 3 interviews in total. I made it through the first one, but not the second. Both were technical phone interviews done over Google Meets. The third was supposed to be an in-person thing. The first interview had two questions. I started off with a bad approach for a Javascript problem but figured it out after a couple minutes. I managed to solve the rest of the stuff. Got lucky and got a second interview. In the second one, the interviewer seemed totally checked out and just threw the task at me. I finished everything on time, but he barely seemed to be paying attention. I asked him about the role and he said they don't actually have a specific team or role in mind, they're just interviewing to find some programmer unicorn, I guess. A lot of wasted effort, honestly. I'm pretty bummed they didn't invite me for the third interview and didn't even tell me why I 'failed' even though I completed all the tasks.
- Reverse a string in a programming language of your choice.
- In the same language, identify the second largest element in a list, considering potential edge cases.
- Demonstrate your Java skills by implementing functions to manage books in a Library system (add, remove, rent, return).
Software Engineer
So I read the reviews about this company's interview process and honestly, I should have listened. Their first step, which they call preliminary, felt more like they were trying to find flaws in me and was super unprofessional. The hiring manager didn't even bother to read my resume. They seemed too narrow-minded to consider people from different backgrounds. Then there was an automation assignment to submit. They completely disregarded the assignment I submitted. The manager, who just got promoted, seemed to just want to brag about the company and put me down, calling me fake with harsh words. Why ask someone to interview multiple times if you're not even going to evaluate technical skills? This whole thing felt like harassment.
- Can you tell me about your resume?
- Which automation framework did you use?
Executive Role
Trifacta really emphasizes finding the right people. I went through a comprehensive interview process called a “slate,” where I met with my potential peers, a couple of the people who would report to me, and the CEO. It was a lot of individual attention, and the interviews took up most of the day. Each person seemed to have specific things they were looking for during our talks. Everyone involved was very intelligent and not arrogant; it feels like a high EQ environment. They were all very deliberate in their interview approach.
- What is your understanding of this industry?
- Can you describe a past experience where you accomplished X, detailing your approach and how you executed it?
