First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Treehouse (Oregon).
Marketing
I applied online and had to fill out this super long questionnaire. They don't take resumes or cover letters, so you HAVE to fill out the form to even apply. Since they make you put in this much time just to apply, I think it's kind of rude to not let an applicant know what happened or that you even spent any time looking at it. Like, just sending an email back saying 'thanks for applying, we looked at your stuff but you're not a fit' would be nice.
- What is most important to you in your work?
Data Scientist
Applied to the role, went through an application screen where my identity was suppressed to promote diversity. Then had a phone screen with the hiring manager, followed by a video interview with a two-person technical panel. Also completed a take-home project. The phone screen and panel interview were friendly and professional, with interesting discussion topics during the panel. I got a good impression of the company, my future manager, and teammates. It's a great process for finding the best-qualified candidate and not being unconsciously swayed by other factors. In my case, I was an employee referral, but the hiring committee had to independently approve me for an interview without knowing who I was.
- If an analysis suggests a factor predicts an outcome, how can you determine if it's causation rather than just correlation?
Engineering Manager
I applied online and then had three phone/video interviews. They told me I could interview with more employees if I wanted to. The hiring manager stayed in touch a lot during the two weeks it took. They only asked behavioral questions about managing people and projects. I talked with the hiring manager, a peer, one of my direct reports, and people from other departments. It all felt really conversational, welcoming, and friendly. It was a really professional and nice interview process.
- Regarding managing people, what methods have you used to create and keep strong relationships with your direct reports, and were these effective? Please explain why or why not.
Marketing Designer
Started with a quick chat with HR, then had a video call with the Junior Marketing Designer and Senior Designer. Next up was another video interview with the Senior Marketing Lifecycle Manager. After that, we all got a design project to create ads for a partnership, and they decided based on that.
- Are you familiar with Treehouse's services?
