Behavioral Group Presentation

First, I met with a group of Probation managers who asked me a bunch of questions about my perspectives on various topics. Probation is shifting more towards social work, so they asked things like whether I leaned more towards social work or criminal justice. That interview lasted about 20 minutes, and then I got to ask them some questions. I heard back within a couple of days for a second interview with the main director. That one was also about 20 minutes. It's more relaxed, even though it's with the head person. He just wants to get to know you. He does some role-playing, acting like he's on probation and asking how I'd handle interacting with him.

Behavioral Presentation

I applied January 13 and heard back for an interview about 3 weeks later. They had said they'd call if you got the job or not, which I thought was a lie. The interview was a panel with 4 interviewers who asked similar questions in different ways. After the interview, we had to write a short answer question that was 2 pages long. Seeing no faces that looked like mine made me feel like I was only there for EEOC reasons. I talked to someone who got the job and he wasn't even qualified with the required law enforcement experience, so I suspect it was the good old boy system.

The process of setting up this interview was a bit difficult, perhaps due to the recruiter's inexperience. The interview itself was conducted over the phone with the hiring manager and was scheduled for 30 to 45 minutes. The hiring manager was polite and clearly engaged in the process, taking notes and providing thoughtful, detailed answers to any questions I had.

I applied online and got an interview invite within a week. The interview was a panel discussion, around 30 minutes. The panel was super nice, welcoming, and genuine. I really liked everyone. Diverse team! They said they wanted to move forward in 2 days and expect a final decision in 3 weeks. They gave me weekly updates on the hiring process, which I appreciated and it helped me understand what to expect from my future manager.
