First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at TPC Group.
Communications Intern
The interview process started with an on-campus meeting at the career center with engineers who didn't seem to know what they were looking for but liked my resume and GPA. I was then invited to their Houston office for a second interview. There, I met individually with the two people I'd be working with in the communications department. Even though I have a marketing background, they really wanted someone with more of a communication/PR background and kept emphasizing writing skills. It felt like they just told me who I should be, making the interview a waste of time. I didn't get the job, but I also didn't want to work there anyway.
- Can you tell me about any projects, research, or outside activities you engage in to improve your writing skills?
Purchasing Specialist
The interview process started with a phone call with HR and the VP of Purchasing. They seemed keen on filling the role. However, the in-person interview was with four people and felt more like an interrogation, focusing on finding someone to do difficult tasks and make existing problems look good. The company seemed to be looking for unrealistic solutions that even the interviewers couldn't achieve. I wouldn't recommend this company.
- Can you describe a challenging situation you encountered and how you managed it?
- Tell me about your most significant achievement.
Human Resources
I had an initial chat with the recruiter which was pretty standard. About six weeks later, the hiring manager reached out for an interview. They mentioned I'd hear back within a week, but it's been another six weeks and I haven't gotten any further word.
- Tell me about policy updates.
Environmental Engineer
I had three separate interviews. Two were phone calls and one was in person. No specific question types like 'star' were used. However, the in-person interview had 4 different people I spoke with, and it lasted for a few hours.
- Can you share your experience and how it aligns with the requirements of this role?
