Manufacturing Engineer
Toyota interviews are all about seeing if you can solve problems, work well with others, and know your lean stuff. They'll ask about your past jobs, how you dealt with tough situations, how you make choices, if you can roll with the punches, and what you know about the Toyota Production System (TPS), always getting better, and keeping production running smoothly.
- Can you tell me what you know about the Toyota Production System (TPS)?
Manufacturing Engineer
It was pretty casual, they mostly wanted to know the split between mechanical and electrical in my background. My manufacturing experience wasn't discussed much. This was before they explained the day-to-day tasks.
- Could you break down the mechanical versus electrical components of your past roles?
Production Engineer
To start the application for the internship, I had to send in my CV and a cover letter. Then, I completed psychometric tests, including Numerical Reasoning and Inductive (Logical) Reasoning. After passing, I was invited to an assessment centre. This involved more psychometric tests (likely to check the online scores), an interview, and a group task with two other people. The group task was a 'bomb diffusion' challenge where we had 15 minutes to lift a 'bomb' out of a circle using ropes without tipping it or dropping it. We ran out of time, but the point seemed to be showing logical thinking and a clear method. The interview was standard and competency-based; the only question that caught me off guard was about frustrations. After that, I had a final interview at the plant a week later, with one other candidate from the assessment centre. It lasted about an hour, included some tough questions, and went well. We got a quick site tour and were told we'd hear back soon. I got the job offer call two days later.
- Could you explain the working of an internal combustion engine?
- What is something that frustrates you?
