I had a 30-minute telephonic screening for a Senior QA role. About 10 minutes were for introductions and discussing the job. They mentioned a current focus on manual QA with plans to increase automation. Then, in the remaining 15-20 minutes, I was asked to write code in a Google Doc to find the longest palindrome in a string. This is a complex algorithm, usually seen for Dev roles, not typically for QA, and especially not at a startup. I started the coding task, with the interviewer guiding me. I wrote some code, but it wasn't finished when the 15 minutes were up, and the interviewer rushed me to finish in 5 minutes. I have 10+ years of automation experience, but finding the longest palindrome in a string isn't something I've needed in real-world projects.

A headhunter reached out via email and it took a couple of days for Brooke to call me on the scheduled date. Brooke seemed nice but you can tell when someone doesn't want to hire you. From the first minute, she sounded indifferent and was very short about toutapp. I wish they had a different person interviewing. She needs more experience or empathy 101. I was warned by another applicant about her, but I had to learn the hard way. These reviews should be more transparent about their recruiting process.

Got referred by an external recruiter to the internal recruiter at ToutApp. The first step was a phone screen with Brooke, who was super nice and open. She asked the usual questions like 'what do you know about us' and 'why us'. She was also really responsive via email. Then I went in for an in-person interview. Getting there was easy, the security was chill, and the office had a relaxed vibe with music. A guy at the entrance helped me find Brooke, who then took me to the interview room. Surprise! It was a group interview with two people for 30 minutes, then another two for another 30 minutes. They seemed to be getting a feel for me, and the whole vibe was really good. I felt confident afterwards. The next day or two, I got contacted for a second interview with the Manager and VP. It felt more like a conversation, and they were really down-to-earth about the role and company. The questions were similar to the first round. I felt it went well, and regardless of the outcome, it was a great experience. Brooke followed up the next day, and the Manager emailed me a quiz the same day. I sent it back a few hours later, and a few days later, the Manager offered me the position.

First, a recruiter call for about 30 minutes. Then, a coding challenge on codility.com. It had 3 questions, 90 minutes total. The first two questions were about algorithms and processing arrays, and the last one was a SQL select question. Finally, an onsite interview with three rounds. The first round was with two engineers, and we designed the database and overall architecture for a URL shortening application. The second round involved a Rails application with failing tests that needed fixing. The third round was more of a cultural fit interview with a manager.
