First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Toray Composite Materials America.
Production Technician
I had a phone interview first where they asked me standard interview questions and if I was okay with their standard work practices. Then I went for what was supposed to be a 4-person panel interview, but because of timing it ended up being just two people on the panel. They took turns asking me about work situations, how I saw myself as an employee, and about my work habits and scenarios from previous jobs. I got a call the next day with a job offer.
- Can you tell me about a time you had a conflict with a coworker and how you resolved it?
- What was the outcome of that conflict situation?
- Were you comfortable with the standard work practices?
Quality Assurance Engineer
I applied in mid-December and heard back via email in early January. My HR contact set up a phone call for the following week, but it was delayed due to issues. The interview was rescheduled three times, and I waited an hour past the scheduled time to connect with my contact. Be ready to put in effort for your interview; you might have to reschedule multiple times and be adaptable. The recruiters took three weeks to get back to me with an offer or rejection, even though they said it would be a week.
- Tell me about your experience with analytical statistics.
- Describe how you would handle troubleshooting when products are malproduced.
- What is your familiarity with the site specific materials mentioned in the job posting?
Human Resources Generalist
I had applied for the role a few months back and then they finally reached out. First, there was a phone interview, and then I was set up for an in-person interview. The in-person interview was a large panel and it went for about 45 minutes. They said they'd get back to me in a week, but I didn't hear anything for three weeks, and then I just got a generic rejection email. I didn't feel it was a good fit during the interview, but I was still surprised by the late follow-up and the standard rejection email after two interviews.
- What's your motivation for wanting to join Toray?
- Why do you believe you're the most suitable candidate for this role?
- Hypothetically, if you received a job offer, what would be a reason for you to decline it?
Network Administrator
I sent my resume and cover letter to HR after seeing their ad on Indeed.com. They reached out by email and phone to set up an interview. During the interview, I met with an HR rep, the IS manager, and a Senior Network Administrator/Technician. They were clear about when I'd hear back and gave me their business cards upfront, which makes me think they're really good at interviewing. It wasn't awkward; they were all personable and asked really sharp questions. The interview lasted about 45 minutes, but they made me feel comfortable in a professional setting. I liked their questions – they were the kind I'd ask if I were interviewing someone. It was challenging but nice! Important point: if you're going for a management role, they want to know what drives you and your values. This tells me they're serious about hiring good managers. If you're difficult to work with, you probably won't get hired there. If you don't know how to get work done within a department and keep things pleasant, you won't fit in! I don't know if I'll get the job offer yet, I should hear back in about a week either way. This is just my honest first impression.
- Given four scenarios – the CEO unable to access email, an unhappy employee with login issues, a friend facing printing problems, and a downed internet router – who would you prioritize assisting, and why, without any additional details?
