Account Director
I applied online and had an initial phone chat that felt super scripted and not very engaging. It was basic, but I didn't get a feel for the company culture. The recruiter asked if I had a driver's license and credit card for travel needs. The conversation was pretty uninspiring, and some of my questions went unanswered. After discussing the commission and target earnings, I inquired about the typical success rate for account directors, but she couldn't provide that info. Apparently, the base salary is quite low compared to the market, relying heavily on 'high commission potential' for about half of the total pay. This seemed like a major warning sign, especially since she wouldn't share the actual goal achievement rates. Next, I took a personality assessment where I had to rate three statements at a time from 'most like me' to 'least like me.' The format felt off and didn't really let me express my personality accurately; I ended up marking statements as 'least like me' even when they were quite true to me. Unfortunately, my personality 'failed,' and I didn't get an offer. Overall, it was a really frustrating process, partly due to the robotic nature of the first interview.
- Do you possess a driver's license?
- Are you more inclined to be a hunter or a relationship builder?
Account Director
I was initially contacted by a recruiter from Ideal Candidate. After a quick introductory call, they passed me along to the recruiter at Top Hat. The Top Hat recruiter was a bit late for our call and asked some basic sales interview questions. Then, I was sent a sales driver assessment, which was a really unique and different kind of assessment, unlike any behavioral questions I'd encountered before. It was quite thorough, and I could see the intent behind it, but it felt pretty subjective because you had to pick one positive phrase that was like you and one that wasn't, which was tough. Unfortunately, I didn't pass the assessment and didn't get a follow-up call. I did reach out to the recruiter to ask for a copy of the assessment, though. It was really interesting.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- What were your sales quotas and numbers?
Account Director
The first and only interview stage was a preliminary phone call. It was the standard procedure, with questions about my experience and interest in the role and Top Hat. The interviewer was cordial and conducted the interview well. I asked about next steps and was told I'd be contacted shortly if I was moving on. I didn't receive any further information, so I assumed I advanced after 7 days.
- What makes you interested in this specific role?
- Could you describe your sales experience and its extent?
- Can you outline the key stages involved in a sales process from beginning to end?
