Product Designer
No HR or recruiter interview. The interview was with two managers (product and innovation). It was meant to be a 30-minute design test on a given problem statement, but it turned into designing a screen with pre-decided features, which I don't think is the best way to assess the product design process. After the 30-minute design session (using screen share), we had a 30-minute discussion about the design. The interviewers were friendly, but I still don't see this approach as a best practice. The interviewer also seemed to favor their existing design. Based on this, I feel the company isn't ready for major product design changes and might be better suited for a UI designer rather than a 0-1 product designer. A product designer might not be the best fit for the company's current state and expectations in the short term.
- Design, within 30 minutes, a screen that includes two containers for meetings (Therapist and Patient) that the therapist can activate or deactivate, a container for a game, and an evaluation tool.
Quality Engineer
After applying, I got a call from an HR Coordinator within a couple of days to set up an online interview. It was a cool self-recorded video interview where I had to answer 5 questions. After I sent it in, the HR Coordinator got back to me after reviewing my answers to talk about what's next. Then, there was a 45-minute online interview on Teams with the Software Development Manager, the HR Coordinator, and another Quality Engineer. It was pretty straightforward, with both technical and informal questions. The HR Coordinator called later for references before they made the offer. The whole thing took about 3 weeks.
- Could you tell me when automation would be a good choice for testing?
Speech Language Pathologist
I had an online interview with a recruiter who handles SLPs and OTs. They knew about SLP roles generally but not the nitty-gritty of what Speech Language Pathologists do. They really wanted to know about my computer skills and any leadership stuff I'd done, particularly if I'd built relationships with school administrators and special needs coordinators. They also asked about working with other rehab pros like OTs and school psychologists. The chat went on for a bit over an hour.
- Can you tell me about your past work with the school-aged population?
- Describe your experience with computer skills.
- What leadership experience do you have, especially regarding building relationships with school administrators and special needs coordinators?
Occupational Therapist
The interview process was straightforward. I had to fill out a pre-interview quiz about my expected pay and experience. Then there was a virtual interview that lasted about 30-45 minutes, with questions mainly focused on getting to know me as a therapist and asking for relevant examples of clinical experiences.
- What would previous employers or clients say about you?
