First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Timken.
Sales Engineer
Had a call with a recruiting firm, they presented my profile to the company. Then I had my first interview with the company's HR. After that, there was a technical interview, an interview with the team manager, an interview with the n+2 manager, an interview with the Business Manager for Europe, and finally an interview with the HR Director for Europe.
- Very technically oriented questions were asked.
Technical Sales Engineer
It started with an online test, aptitude + technical, which was pretty easy. Then there was a telephonic call with four reps where they asked some basic tech and HR stuff. The next round had 5 mechanical questions, mainly to check if I'm cut out for sales. The last interview was with the MD of Timken India, and honestly, it was the worst. He asked weird questions about the East India Company, Mughal Empire, and Chancellors of India. He even made a comment about me interning at a 'sick company'. The final question to get the job was to guess his home state, and when I couldn't, he crumpled my resume into a paper plane and told me to 'fly away', saying I was rejected. Totally unprofessional behavior from someone so high up.
- Can you explain how a diesel engine works?
- Tell me about the history of India.
Sales Engineer
There were 4 interviews in total, starting from technical and ending with HR. The technical test seemed very difficult, but in the end, they just wanted to verify your fundamental mechanical engineering knowledge. You should be able to interpret technical drawings and explain the power flow within a gearbox. Having basic knowledge of bearings would also be beneficial. Overall, it was a very challenging but fair interview process.
- Can you identify the gear drive before you and illustrate its power flow?
