Customer Success Engineer
I applied through LinkedIn and was contacted by a recruiter who seemed new. The first round was really friendly and focused on learning potential. I learned basic concepts like DNS, HTTP, and how Traceroute works. The second round was a really tough but informative take-home assignment that took me over two weeks, working day and night. This helped a lot in the onsite. The final onsite had 4 rounds. While the interviews were good, I didn't like the management. I passed the onsite and provided referrals for a background check. My referrals were never contacted, and I got a rejection after a month. No reimbursement was provided, and the management seemed poor, especially with the new recruiter.
- Can you explain DNS?
- Tell me about HTTP.
- What do you know about DHCP?
Customer Success Engineer
After an initial phone chat with the hiring manager, I had a homework assignment. Then, there were several 1:1 meetings, some technical and some more general discussions with managers about fitting into the company culture. The last part was a technical challenge with a group, where we had to troubleshoot a live scenario. It was tough but fair, and everyone was upfront with my questions about the job. They communicated well about what to expect. If you're interested, really dive into the company and product, try out the platform beforehand, and be ready to connect your experience and skills to it.
- Can you tell me about TCP/IP?
- What do you know about DNS?
- How about HTTP?
Customer Success Engineer
The interview journey kicked off with the standard tech company routine: resume screening, a phone chat, a take-home assignment, and then a lengthy 6-8 hour onsite interview. I first heard from management for a Phone Screen, and the interviewer really helped me get a feel for the process, though I did struggle with some questions. They then gave me an extra assignment about traceroute's low-level workings and some topics to review, plus access to a ThousandEyes Product free trial. I got the green light to proceed. The next stage, a take-home assignment, was tough, focusing on troubleshooting, networking, communication, and problem-solving. It took me 6 days of research to complete, within the week deadline (though extensions were possible). About a week later, I found out I was moving on to the onsite. This involved meeting three other Customer Success Engineers and the Director, followed by a panel interview. The engineers quizzed me on internet workings, Linux admin, and customer interactions, while the Director focused on cultural fit. The panel interview/challenge itself had a one-hour prep time, where knowing the ThousandEyes product (hence the early free trial recommendation) was crucial. Then, with four or so Customer Success Engineers, detailed and well-thought-out answers were paramount. It was an exhausting but motivating day. A few days post-onsite, I got the offer and accepted.
