First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Thought Industries.
Customer Education Manager
The recruiter was great at keeping me in the loop. I started with a phone screen, then I had a chat with someone from the hiring team. Unfortunately, I didn't make it past that round, and they let me know within about a week after my interview.
- Can you discuss your background and how it's relevant to the job?
Customer Success Manager
I applied on the company website and went through the interview process remotely. The process followed was: a 30-minute recruiter call, a 30-minute hiring manager call, and a mock success planning session. The recruiter and hiring manager conversations were pleasant, and I enjoyed them and learning more about the organization. What was disappointing was being ghosted after the success planning interview. I received no follow-up email stating I wasn't moving forward. What a waste of time. But it looks like I dodged a bullet based on the employee reviews.
- How do you stay updated on Customer Success industry trends?
JavaScript Applications Developer
First there was a phone call with the recruiter, then I spoke with the lead developer over the phone. The final step was a take-home coding challenge where I had to fix 2 bugs and complete 2 frontend tasks using React and 1 backend task using GraphQL for the SpaceX GraphQL API. After I sent in the take-home challenge, the recruiter let me know the next day that they were going with other candidates. I asked for feedback via email, but never got any. Felt super unprofessional, like they just wanted free work on their bugs. Avoid if they give you a code challenge!
- Tell me what you know about Thought Industries.
- What's your reasoning for using GraphQL?
- SpaceX recently released a new GraphQL API, and we thought it would be cool to use it to show all their launches on one page. We made this, and it's okay, but it has some problems and needs work. That's where you come in!
Business Development Representative
The company asks for two assignments after the initial screening, one written and one as a mock call, based on their product. This process is too demanding and time-consuming, and it's unfair to ask candidates to train themselves on the product as part of recruitment, especially since the company is a training and development platform, potentially exploiting candidate recruitment for internal training.
- Two business development-based assessments were required.
- A mock call assessment was part of the business development evaluation.
