First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Thompson Industrial Services.
Sales Representative
So we had two interviews, both on webex. Pretty straightforward stuff. They asked about my background, what I've accomplished, and how I could help them out.
- Do you have experience in industrial sales?
- Are you open to travel?
- Are you familiar with CRM systems?
Leadership Development Program
I applied to the company's 'Leadership Development Program' after seeing an ad on craigslist. The ad didn't mention anything about needing to relocate, even though the company has a presence in South Louisiana. I sent my resume and cover letter, and the recruiter called me back within two hours. We talked about my background and why I was interested in their program. They explained it's an 18-24 month management training program where recruits are placed in the field to learn the business, with the goal of moving up into management upon satisfactory completion. The starting pay is $18/hour plus overtime, but there's no guarantee of a full 40-hour week, and the recruiter even suggested saving money for slow weeks. When I asked about the completion rate, the recruiter wouldn't say. I wanted to know the next step, and that's when they told me the position requires relocation to an unspecified location. Since I can't relocate, I had to decline. Their ad said the position was posted by their South Louisiana location and might require occasional travel or overnight stays, but nothing about a mandatory move to a different location later on. If they had mentioned that, I wouldn't have wasted our time.
- Would you be open to moving?
Superintendent
It was a very professional process from start to finish. Everyone at Thompson makes you feel like family. The moment you walk in the door you just feel welcomed by people who seem to genuinely care about what they do every day.
- What motivated you to join Thompson?
Technician
The interview was straightforward. I listened to the computer and answered questions. After that, I took a drug test and then waited about seven days after applying to start training.
- Are you comfortable working in confined spaces?
