So the process for a marketing specialist starts with looking at your portfolio and then we'll chat about your past marketing campaigns and how they did. We also want to understand how you do market research and come up with strategies. After that, there's a technical interview where we'll see how good you are with digital marketing tools and platforms. We'll also check out your critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork skills.

First, there's a 15-minute Zoom call with the recruiting team. If they approve you, you'll then set up a Zoom interview with the nurse manager of the unit you're interested in. My interview was pretty short, only about 15-20 minutes total. Make sure to bring up any healthcare experience you have.

I started with a phone screening with HR. Then, I had two virtual interviews with the managers. They seemed to think the interviews went well and extended an offer, but I declined. The reason for declining was that the HR person offered me significantly less than what the managers had indicated as their salary budget during the interviews. This felt insulting, especially since they expected me to work 50-60 hours weekly. It turned out they lowballed me because I'm a minority woman, despite my extensive professional background.

I had a 5-hour interview process. First, I interviewed with the program director and then the search committee chair, each individually. After that, there was a group interview. The whole thing was thorough and professional. We also had a lunch meeting with the full faculty. I had to wait quite a while to hear back about the offer.
