Behavioral Technical Coding

I first connected with a recruiter, and then within a week, I had a phone screen with the Director of Software Development. He mentioned he'd seen some of my work on public repositories. The conversation wasn't super technical, mostly about my past jobs and what I enjoy doing in software development. About a week after that, I had an onsite interview with most of the team, which lasted about an hour. The first half involved the team asking me questions, a mix of behavioral and slightly technical ones related to my mentioned technologies. In the second half, I got to ask them questions. The onsite was a bit nerve-wracking with about 8 people interviewing me, but they were really friendly and easy to talk to. I got an offer about 3 to 4 days after the onsite.

So I applied for a Senior Visual Product Designer role, and they also had a Director of Product Design opening, which seemed a bit off. I got a call back from the CTO within a week and we moved pretty quickly from a phone screen to a design challenge, then an in-person, and then a bunch of other interviews. They sent over this design challenge that was kinda vague, asking for my thoughts on how their website looked and could be improved visually. I ended up doing a whole audit of their product, mapped out user paths for onboarding and class assignments, gave a detailed breakdown, made a mood board, and then presented a mock visual design during the in-person interview. The in-person itself was good, I liked everyone I met. But then, four people couldn't make it or weren't invited, so I ended up spending an extra four hours doing individual interviews with them. It was a bummer that the CEO actually fell asleep during one of my video interviews, saying she had jetlag, which felt pretty disrespectful. Even after all that, my main contact just went silent. I followed up a couple of times, and they finally replied saying I was still a strong candidate but they were still interviewing. It's now late August, they're still interviewing for both roles, and a recruiter just hit me up about the *same* position. It's clear they don't really know what they want or how to build a design team, and they'll stretch your goodwill way too far. I learned a lot, and hope they figure out their process.

Behavioral Presentation

I applied and then got a call from a Product Director for an initial screening. I showed them my portfolio and was given a take-home design task for which I was paid. Then I went in person to present my solution and answer questions. I got the offer shortly after and accepted. It was a good interview experience at ThinkCERCA. They respected my time and gave good answers to my questions. The leaders were really responsive when I was working on the project and their attitude made me excited to join.

The interview process was efficient, they knew exactly what they were looking for in a new sales hire. It consisted of two interviews total. The first with the VP of Sales and the second was with one of the Co-Founders. The whole process took about a week from the first interview to receiving the job offer.
