First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Data Manager
The interview process involved two rounds. The first round focused on technical and process-related questions, scenario-based questions, and behavioral assessments. They also asked for details about my day-to-day tasks and a thorough explanation of the start-up process. Questions about my motivation for joining the company and reasons for seeking a change were also covered. This was followed by an HR round.
- Can you elaborate on the technical processes involved?
- What is your motivation for joining our company?
Senior Manager
The interview process had two stages. The first was with the hiring manager and the second with the department head. Each lasted 45 minutes and focused on competency-based questions. After the final interview, I followed up after eight weeks and was told it was moving to offer stage. However, the HR contact then informed me that the funding for the role had been reduced and offered 20% less than initially advertised, which I declined.
- Tell me about a situation where you had to train staff on a technically complex topic.
Manager
My first interview was with the recruiter and it was pretty bad. They really grilled me on why I was looking to leave and made me feel like a job hopper even though I had been at my last job for over 5 years. It felt like they expected everyone to stay forever. The recruiter seemed surprised I would consider Thermo Fisher when I'd worked at places like Apple and Amazon, and they couldn't understand why I'd want to leave those 'progressive' companies for what they called a 'boring' company, while also expecting me to praise Thermo. I was initially excited about the role, but this interview completely turned me off. The questions felt negative and the whole experience was just weird. I never even got a formal rejection.
- Tell me about your reasons for leaving your current job.
- Could you elaborate on your motivations for wanting to leave?
- You've been at your current role for 5 years and are looking for a new challenge; some might consider that a quick transition. Can you explain that?
