I was living overseas, so I had two interviews via Skype. The first was about 20 minutes and the second was about an hour, with a different professor for each. The second interview seemed focused on convincing me why I should attend this university. I researched the second professor's papers extensively and prepared many questions. This preparation might have contributed to my acceptance.

So, first there was a phone interview. Then, I had two in-person interviews. I was super nervous, so I can't recall all the details. But I came ready with printed copies of my resume and cover letter, plus some journal articles from the PI. They mentioned later that this really impressed them. I also took notes during the interview, which they said set me apart from other candidates.
